With an upcoming trip planned, I started to research the costs around taking my board with me on a couple of airlines. All told, it was going to cost me about $300 to transport my board. Yes, I have a deceiver golf bag, but the airlines are getting wise to those and they ask what's inside (and if you don't have a set of golf clubs in there, beware). Besides, those deceiver golf bags are enornous and take up more than their fair share of room in the tiny rental car on the other end.
The solution (inspired by this dude: http://saucisseman.free.fr/demontable.htm) is the break-in-half kiteboard!

I'll explain how I did it below (coming soon) but this baby set me back about $50 with supplies from my local lumber store. It's made of a couple of sheets of .25 inch marine grade ply and some oak flooring for the cleats.
It goes great in the water and fits into my kite bag or duffel. It only took about 2 or 3 days of light work (including time for the glue and varnish to set) to pull together.
